About Me

My name is Damon Kalokerinos, this is my second to last semester at Sacramento city college. I’ve been going here for a long time and I constantly change my major which has held me back for some time. I feel like so many people just run through their adult education because they see it as a means to an end, which I have a hard time doing. I want learn for the sake of learning not just so I can get a high paying job when this is all over, which is why I choose Philosophy as my major. I’d like to transfer out of California to Colorado to finish my degree.

I come from a very small family, just my mother, father, sister and I. My Dad is a greek immigrant and my mom is a born and raised California gal. My sister and I have a good relationship despite us being very different people. I constantly feel like her and I see the world through two very different lenses however, we’ve come to appreciate each other. My parents divorced when I was in high school primarily because my mother had been misdiagnosed and was taking wrong medication which caused biopolar disorder to manifest itself in her which was too much a burden for my father to handle. Before I was sad that my family fell apart but now after time has pasted we all can come together and it is way less chaotic then ever which makes me happy.

Before the COVID-19 I was bartender which I had a lot of fun doing. It pays the rent and for me to go to school so I am very grateful to have earned the opportunity to learn the craft. Since then I’ve been working on my family farm up north. I really love working with my hands, I find it very rewarding. It’s nice to wake up really early out there and go outside. feel the cool wind and listen to the sounds of tree and little critters in their morning routine. Then later once the stars come out, wow, its entirely different from looking up here in Sacramento, you can see every star and constellation with ease, it is magical.

Some of my passions are as followed. I like listening to music and going to festivals and shows, lately I’ve been listening to The Growlers way too much especially their album Chinese fountain. I love snowboarding, it is without a doubt my favorite outdoor activity. I buy a season pass every year and try and spend as much time as possible in Tahoe. When it is not snowing you’ll find me riding down the 101 or through the Sierra’s on my motorcycle. I love bikes because it’s a real thrill to ride them but I also like to work on them. it’s like a super complex puzzle (but with a purpose, not like stupid real puzzles) however they aren’t as big as a car so it’s less intimidating to work on. The other week my clutch broke, it took me two hours to take it apart, a week to get all the part sand then another hour to put it back together. To some that seems like a lot of work but I value it because every time something brakes I get a chance to learn more about a machine that I love.
